ABOUT RADICAL ROOTS

RADICAL ROOTS IS THE CULINARY ARM OF THE HOMESTEAD

Gilchrist county is named after a surname and boy’s name of Gaelic origin that means “servant of Christ”. It comes from the Scottish Gaelic name Gille Chrìost or Gille Chriosd.

El Rancho Mackintosh was established in August 2021 as a regenerative sustainable homestead with a specialty interest in SCUBA and Freediving, springs appreciation, preservation, and clean-up. Founded by Alistair M., coming from a culinary background in Edinburgh, Scotland; he is uniquely gifted to tease your palate. A first-generation American, with Scottish-Texan roots and an interest in permaculture. A self-avowed novice gardener, Alistair emphasizes the power of just getting started whether or not you have a plan. Sometimes instead of stressing out the best way to garden is to just dig a hole and plant a tree. The gardens here have been achieved without formal training or education and showcase the power of untrained permaculture. Nature knows best.

We recently opened the Eco Teaching Garden as an interactive place to hold workshops and events. Learn about our Biochar initiative and connect with the soil, growing your own food and how to get started. Resilience in a community starts at home.

We offer sustainable experiences to help you reconnect with nature when you make a donation to our green community projects. Join us under the stars by the bonfire and help work the land. Apply for an agrotourism experience through Hip Camp to verify that our intentions align, and we will direct the funds into our soil development. While we do accept bookings through Hip Camp, guests must apply for the booking and agree to the rules. We only accept small groups as the camp is an active permaculture project you are taking part in. All wood ash and char is used in our soil development process making biochar. We can share our local knowledge and love of the springs. We can shuttle paddleboards and kayaks and if you donate to the farm, we can do a whole photo/video snorkel day together at our favorite spots. We board dogs, and you can check your dog in on Rover app when you camp with us, and bring your dog along. Details below.

Please note when planning your visit that the gardens are not tropical all year. Conditions change seasonally and in rotation of the soil’s needs. Please be respectful of the plant life.
